Use of Conventions

How does your project use or challenge conventions of your genre, and how does it represent social groups or issues?

My project uses conventions of my genre in my photo shoot and the type of font that I used. The photos used represent my genre of sports but more specifically basketball. They capture the essence of the game focused in on one particular player. This is also important because that player is a senior in high school which means it is his last year playing basketball while representing his school. My text used in my project to me just reminds me of basketball for some odd reason which is why I chose the font that I chose.

My project represents social groups or issues because even though some people get the chance to play the sport that they love for their whole life and get paid for it, not everyone gets that same chance. The person that is in my magazine is being captured in some of his last games of his career which are most important and memorable but it represents the social issue of him not being able to play this game for the rest of his life. It also represents social groups because some people in the lower class don't get this same opportunity to play basketball because they are forced to drop out of school so that they can work and make money for their family.

My target audience's age range goes anywhere 10-50 years old because many people in this age range follow basketball as an interest. The gender of the target audience is mainly male but there are also many females interested in basketball. The audience can come from anywhere around because basketball is a world wide sport. My product engages with audiences because readers may be basketball players so they can relate to my product on a personal level. My product discusses relates to all age groups of basketball starting from high school basketball to professional. This engages with the audience of my magazine because the majority of the readers either have played basketball at some point in their life or they are huge fans of the sport in general. Also, my product discusses basketball gear and the most popular gear which engages with my audience because my audience will either want to buy gear or be up to date with the latest products. To be distributed as a real media text I would use my social media accounts to display my product. Social media is one of the biggest advertisement platforms in today's society and generation so it would be very beneficial to use my social media accounts to advertise and sell my products. My production skills have improved significantly through the process of making this project. My production skills in Microsoft Publisher have improved tremendously. Before this project I had very little experience when it came to working with Publisher. After reading all the feedback my teachers and my peers I began to catch on. Also writing these blogs was very different but eventually I learned how to write them. My cover page took me multiple editing tries but after a few attempts it looks good. I had to take new pictures on a real camera instead of my phone to make it look more professional. Learning about the different techniques and little details and ways to edit develop my production skills significantly. My table of contents also took multiple tries. I learned of ways to change the color of the background, different ways of how to format it and also new picture are used. All of these things make my product look much more professional.
